I'm not sure I will listen as much to the Mike O'Meara show.  The days when he is solo are not that good

I know Don tried to defend Mike yesterday, but he has to know that Mike has basically been a second banana for 25 years now, and isnt equipped to be the lead guy.

I am going to miss Don's pure joy for radio, and hope he pops back up down the line...

RIP Klink

Don Says Farewell To Dog - 2/11 - Don Geronimo revealed today that his WJFK-FM afternoon show was in reruns Friday because he had to "put down" his aging (almost 15-year-old) and infirmed pet dog, a German shepherd named Colonel Klink. At the TLC Animal Hospital in Leesburg. CBS Radio suits had said that the show was in an unplanned "best of" mode due to an unspecified "family emergency"......

I thought TLC was The Lasereye Care Center.  Are they euthanising animals with light sabers?

Dave Hughes Reliable Sources check in again, twice:

Geronimo Gone From JFK, May Return For One Final Show - 4/2 - Here's what we're hearing about the status of legendary "radio God" Don Geronimo (left) at CBS Radio's WJFK-FM. He's pretty much "retired." However, he could still return for one more "knock it out of the ballpark" final show. But that's it. Originally, Geronimo had announced that his last show before retirement would be at the end of May. But rumors surfaced early this week about Geronimo's early departure when his spring "vacation" got mysteriously extended. Also, we're hearing that guy talker JFK may move up the start date on the Don and Mike replacement afternoon show, featuring Geronimo's longtime partner, Mike O'Meara, from its original June start date. We're hearing that CBS's DC suits are huddled in meetings today trying to decide their next move. Look for a new gameplan within the next week or two - while D&M "best ofs" air. Another possibility, we hear, is that JFK could move midday men Big O and Dukes into the afternoon drive slot, and do something else with O'Meara. Some JFK suits seem to indicate that BO&D would attract more young male demos, and better interface with the morning Junkies, who are seeing solid ratings growth.....

O'Meara's Pub Closes - 4/2 - Speaking of WJFK's Don and Mike, we're getting confirmation that Mike O'Meara's Northern Virginia eatery and Irish pub, O'Meara's, has gone belly-up. Its website is gone. And the old town Manassas storefront has been locked up, we're told. O'Meara had heavily promoted the business on his afternoon radio show. O'Meara and a business partner had tried to buy a Dupont Circle area pub last year, but that deal fell through.....

more from Rupert

It's Official: Don Retires Early, Mike To Host Show With Beth Ann As Producer - 4/2 - Late Wednesday, we get this from CBS Radio, which owns talker WJFK-FM: "Don Geronimo has chosen to accelerate his retirement and step down from his current position as co-host of the Don and Mike program. Co-host Mike O'Meara will continue the show with familiar cast members, Buzz Burbank, Robb Spewak, and Joe Ardinger. Additionally, Beth Ann McBride is returning as executive producer of the program and will have an on-air role. During the week beginning Monday, April 7, Buzz and Robb will host a series of retrospective clips, highlighting the programs immense success over the last 20 years. Meanwhile, Don will return on Friday, April 11, to host a farewell show and thank his legions of listeners for their continued support over the years." A top WJFKer tells DCRTV: "We will most certainly miss Don?s presence on the air and wish him a wonderful retirement. Not many can compare to the achievements he?s made for the past 20 years with Mike and partners, and before that, in this market and others. He raised the bar for all of us with his passion, focus, and energy. At the same time, we are welcoming an evolution of afternoon drive on WJFK. Mike O?Meara, Buzz, Robb, Joe, and now Beth Ann are primed and ready to deliver a show that is both familiar and provides a sense of continuity but also evolve to add new dimensions to the show." As DCRTV has reported, O'Meara will be returning the show to WJFK-FM's Fairfax studios from the old WARW studios in Rockville. We are "looking forward to integrating with the entire WJFK line-up which is now, live, local and in one location in all prime dayparts," a top JFKer tells DCRTV.....

After 1 month on the air at WOCM Geronimo was fired from his show. He is quoted as saying They fired me for talking too much and adlibbing during live reads. Oh, and I wanted more than $10 an hour. All true, gotta love radio... Next move maybe sooner before later... but I did have fun for a month."
