Monday Night? Is Not Amused by Kimmel

Published: October 17, 2007
Jimmy Kimmel?s appearance on ESPN?s ?Monday Night Football? was his last.

Kimmel, the host of ABC?s late-night talk show, was put on early in the third quarter with the Giants leading the Atlanta Falcons, 21-10, ostensibly to enliven a rout.

He joked about where Joe Theismann was (fired and replaced by Ron Jaworski); cracked that it was Tony Kornheiser who got Theismann axed; asked Kornheiser and Jaworski if they bet on games (they played along); and said, ?I?d also like to welcome Joe Theismann, watching from his living room with steam coming from his ears.?

The last remark was ignored by Kornheiser, Jaworski and Mike Tirico.

Jay Rothman, ESPN?s ?Monday Night? producer, called Kimmel?s comments ?classless and disappointing. It was cheap. The more he went on, the worse he got.?

Kimmel will not be invited back, Rothman said.

Theismann was more amused than annoyed by Kimmel?s comments, some of which he heard while watching TV at home. But he missed others while watching ?CSI: Miami? on CBS, a new favorite since becoming a ?free agent with nowhere to go.?

?I don?t have an opinion about what people say, but it?s nice to know you?re missed,? he said yesterday in a telephone interview. ?It?s interesting that people remember me.?

He said, without rancor, that he is not fully engaged in ?Monday Night? because ?it has become Tony Kornheiser?s show,? more about issues than football

True, true.

I commend him for having the balls to be honest about the situation on the air...  However, his last line was such a bomb and very much overkill.  He should've let the first segment he was on as is, and he would've been fine. He just did the ol'  [O/x]

Well this blows my "Kimmel being groomed to replace TK in 2008" theory.
Or perhaps it's "Kimmel was being groomed to replace TK in 2008..."

Of course not, and his rants will be epic.  I expect Tirico and Jaws to quit.
What would be most excellent would be Adam taking Love Line calls in the 4th Quarter of bad / blowout games.  Only the kiddies are awake then anyway.

PSA: tons of full length Adam-era Loveline shows available for download at lovelinearchive.com
I am aware of that as well.  I missed the show for years since it wasn't available in Philly (as far as I could tell) and KROQ only recently began streaming their live feeds.
