Tony opens the show by talking about the snowstorm that hit DC, and he also talks about Patrick Reed with Michael. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports calls in to give his thoughts on the big Rams / Lions trade over the weekend, Michael Wilbon phones in to talk about that trade, plus golf and a miraculous win by the Wizards, and Tony closes out the show by opening up the Mailbag.

Songs : Church and State "You Get What You Get" ; "Black Cadillac"

A great and funny set of limerick & haiku emails today. They almost made up for Mayor McChi & Kornheiser the Lesser’s mewling over Patrick Reed.

Hah! Yeah you really touched a nerve with that one it seemed.

Good. He has (in his own indirect, shrugging way of course) later copped to the fact he deserved to be called out.
I derive some pleasure from sending some, knowing that they will not be read, but that they still strike their target. I sent one today about golf talk; never going to be read.

Wilson’s analysis of Goff vs Stafford is incredibly abysmal. How this man co hosts a daily sports show is beyond the pale. No nuance, no depth, just “Goff is better because he has been to a super bowl and the playoffs more than Stafford”
wtf?

And in the same breath, Wilbon will rise to the defense of Ernie Banks and Dan Marino.

And in the same breath, Wilbon will rise to the defense of Ernie Banks and Dan Marino.
I didn’t even mention the end of that segment when Tony asserts that the Rams will win the SB next year and Wilbon gets confused and thinks he is calling the Lions to win. When TK corrects him as MW starts a dumb diatribe about the lions chances, rather than admit he misunderstood all MW says over and over is “but it’s Stafford. He’s the Lions Tony. He’s the Lions”

huh?

So Stafford was the reason the Lions have sucked for a decade and why the Rams have no shot to win in all next year?!?! How stupid is this take?!?! Just admit you heard wrong. Wtf was that???

I actually sorta agree with Mayor McChi here; it’s not that he may have misheard, though he probably may have.

It’s that I think Stafford’s gotten more prop$ than he probably deserves because of that big arm and gaudy, garbage time numbers, which tends to seduce the fantasy nerds and stat humpers of the world. (Keep in mind, per LaCanfora, the fair-to-middling division foe of ours who due to video-game stats also is the SIXTH “greatest” passer of all time.)

A pedestrian product at best, propped up by marketing BS. Yanno, kinda like a Ford.

I'm really mystified by the golf argument (I had no idea what MK's word salad point was). As I see it, the golfer did something that the rules officials said was ok and , and even if he couldn't do it, it would have no affect on the outcome of the game. Where is the controversy?

MK on the rules of golf....

"So the fact that you that you intro him and tee him up as the notorious Patrick Reed means its impossible to look at what he did today without looking at what he did, or alleged to have done when he was a college player. what he did at the Hero World Challenge two years ago when you are bringing back these 1980s accusations with player and Watson. has two angles or what's behind ball and he wants to tape. No this this comes down to the basic question. Do you think he's a cheater, or then do you think he cheated because right now you have a paradox within the rules of golf fair is foul, foul is fair, through the fog and filthy air, now you have somebody who seems to be able to use his persona, his brand his bulldogish personality and the rules of golf, to get what he wants. And it comes down to the fact that did the rules of golf allow him to do what he did, yes if we go back to what the basic rules is, rule 16 4 If you reasonably believe that your ball lies in a condition where free relief is allowed under the rules, but you cannot decide that without lifting your ball, they mark the spot and lift the ball to see if relief is allowed.
So again, without the fans, he's allowed to go to the marshal Did you see the ball bounce. As soon as you get some doubt where you may not know did the marshals see everything? the marshals maybe 15 feet away, you might as well just say, I'm gonna wait, I'm gonna wait till the rules guy gets because he does call it with the rules official and normally in those situations the rules official will call up the TV booth and say can you see if it bounced and again you have a heavy rough, that is sea side that has thick air, its notoriously thick and you're also preparing something, preparing for the US Open in June, so this rough is probably nastier than it's going to be so it's not it's not out of the realm of possibility that you're going to get a lot of embedded balls as you say, with the spin and bounce it's unlike, it's going to be on the second, then bound so if there is that question, just wait you if you have any self awareness as to who you are reputation and you care about that. Wait, put the ball down, do not lifted, though again, he uses the rules where he's trying to say, it's about pace of play you saw yesterday, he hits a bunker shot to about a foot and a half, he goes ahead cleans it up so that the other players who are struggling with in the hole can catch up so it's it's it's understanding who he is, it's understanding what the rules of golf, which did change with regard to embedded balls, which is mostly for weekend play like us."

Golf yak of any sort is a show-killer. And MK is absolutely incapable of making a succinct point, anytime, about anything, ever. Yeah, ya's got a "Inglish" degree - did your profs all give extra credit for word count? If any of them would ever deign to listen to the show they'll be coming to rescind those degrees.

10+ minutes of golf talk by two people and no discussion that the PGA announced a new location for the 2022 championship. Normally, these decisions on hosting majors are made 5 or more years in advance, but apparently a special circumstance led the PGA to switch venues in 2022. I would love to know the backstory behind this unusual move and the thoughts of a few golf experts. Gutless.

you know whats a not so great example of podcasting producing? putting two emails that are essentially the same back to back in an email segment. brilliant
