Tony opens the show by talking about the Heisman Trophy winner, and also about holiday card etiquette and about a spoiled New Years dinner. Chris Cillizza and Gary Braun call in for Nigel's news, Meet The Press host Chuck Todd phones in with his weekend picks, and Tony closes out the show by opening up the Mailbag.

Songs : Maddy Clark "Rope Burns" ; High Divide "Jaw Dropped"

In nearly consecutive sentences, Tony says with some dismay that Trevor Lawrence will be the #1 pick, but has never won the Heisman, then answers MK's question that the last WR to win was Desmond Howard, "who was a bust in the pros". It's almost as if there's little correlation between the Heisman and NFL success.

Tony in rare form this morning: "Arkansas was seen as a southern state" when Clinton ran for President.

You don't say

When Team A has beaten Team B in the NFL regular season TWICE, and they meet again in the playoffs, Team A wins about 65% of the time (as of 2018, anyway, the last reference I found).

I do sympathize with TK on the sugar thing, though. My sister, when we were kids, made one of her initial forays into cooking by making spaghetti sauce. She would accept no help. The recipe said, "four cloves of garlic." She added 4 HEADS of garlic.

It smelled great. It took one bite to realize that something was very wrong.

Chuck and Tony might want to check the NFL's record of players and brain damage before they go on another tirade about the "Integrity of the League."

The record is pretty clear that owners care about making money and nothing else.

The entirety of the NFC East should thank their lucky stars that the stupid NFL allows teams with losing records in the playoffs and just stfu.
This. Judge should have won more games if he wanted to get into the Playoffs and not be depending on some other team to get his lousy group in the mix.

I agreed with almost everything Judge said...in a vacuum. But he is a lousy messenger. "We're 6-10 and we demand teams play hard so we can back into the playoffs."

I just listened to this episode today. Did I actually hear The Old Man implicitly shame others for being too cheap to spend money on a holiday card & stamp with which to honor him? Sweet Mother of Mercy, the tone-deafness and/or hypocrisy is strong in this one.

You certainly did. I guess the fact that someone remembered him just isn't enough for TK these days.

plus, Hurts was 7 for 20 with 72 yards with no TD and an INT. his rating was 25.4. Not exactly lighting it up. I don't think you want the league micromanaging coaches....

Yeah, all this handwringing is ridiculous. I said the same about Hurts on Monday. Today, JLC finally brings some sanity.
