If you're looking for a game that's very heavy on story but not so much on action, get Heavy Rain.  I'm not sure what types of games you're into for the most part, but this one leans closer to an older style PC based adventure game.  However, it's heavy on quick time events where you have to press a certain button or button combo that the screen shows within a certain time frame, and that sometimes turns off those who prefer more of an action based game.

Hearing good things about both ACIII and Far Cry 3.  Need to break out AC3 on my WiiU this weekend.

I can vouch that both of these are great.  GT5 is the best racing game out there, IMO (even though I'm not huge on racing games), and LBP is a damn good platformer.  Also, if you play baseball games, MLB The Show is the best series out there when it comes to console sports games.

While we're discussing PS3s, could someone please help me convince the missus that purchasing one would be beneficial for our household?  Please?  I've been striking out here for years on my own... [pout]

Hey, Pen,

our wives like each other, if we bought each other one as a present, do you think they would get that mad?

First, do you need a blu ray player?  If so, do you need something to stream via Netflix, Hulu Plus, and/or Amazon?  Because the PS3 does all of these, and handles 3D Blu Ray as well if you want to go that route.  As far as home entertainment goes, it's the best all around box, IMO.  I've always thought it streamed better than my 360 does.

(Note:  I have not tested my WiiU enough to see where it ranks with Netflix and the like, so I'm leaving it out of the conversation for now)

Oh...and it also plays games pretty nicely as well.  My only complaint about the PS3 is that it's nowhere near the 360 for online play if you go that route.  PSN is pretty clunky.

If you ask her, she will look at my current DVD collection, imagine that it would all need to be replaced, and say no.  That's where negotiations break down...

Ok, then this may help you:  Blu Ray players are very good at upconverting standard DVDs.  Many of the DVDs you have probably won't need replaced, because they will look a lot better being played on the Blu Ray player.  I could definitely tell a difference in many of my movies between the upconverting DVD player we had in one room and the PS3.  I've only replaced a few of my movies - most because the DVD I had was not widescreen, and a few that I found the BR version in the bargain bin.

I can second Heavy Rain as quite interesting.  I played it before the kid was born, always wanted to replay it but the tutorial would be so frustrating to redo...there's no saves in the game, so you don't get to take back any of the myriad choices.  Most don't screw the game, just take you to a different ending.  It was a welcome change to the usual shoot 'em up experience.

Both Batman games are, of course, musts, but not PS3 exclusive.

Echo as well that it's a brilliant streaming box.

You know, I didn't even think to post about other good games that are cross platform.  I have a 360 along with my PS3, so I typically just get the exclusives for the PS3 unless I hear a cross platform game was designed on the PS3 than ported to the 360.  If you want to play football on the PS3, Madden has been drastically improved this year, for once.  NCAA 13 is ok if you haven't played any of the recent titles, but the game engine is getting stale quickly.  You may want to hold out until next year so the new Madden physics engine is in place.

Looks like Sony is making a major announcement on the 20th - lots of speculation that it's going to be the unveiling of the next PlayStation.

So....I've worked through

Assassins Creed III
Far Cry III
Red Dead Redemption
NCAA Football 2012
Assasins Creed IV

Currently on COD Ghosts. The campaign part seemed extremely short.
