Oppenheimer - fun family comedy for the kids.
Seriously, great movie, clearly the best of the year. Every award should go to this movie, Nolan’s direction is incredible, Cillian Murphy is great and Robert Downey Jr just crushes it. See in IMAX.
Nolan does it again.

The Blackening - 8 out of 10. Probably more deserving of something closer to a 7, but dammit, I want to see more movies like this get made. The comedy to horror ratio leaned more toward horror than I was expecting, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Air - 8 out of 10. Very good movie about how Nike landed Michael Jordan. Of course it left out, how Nike and David Stern paid off the refs to ignore Jordan’s traveling and steal the NBA title from the Knicks for years

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent - 7.5 out of 10. A fun Nicholas Cage spoof type film, starring Cage himself, doing a fabulous job of making fun of himself. Also good performances by Pedro Pascal. If you like Nicholas Cage, this is for you.

“American Symphony” is the new Netflix documentary about musician Jon Batiste during his annus mirabilis/annus horribilis during which he won a whole raft of Grammys and premiered his first symphony at Carnegie Hall while his wife was undergoing a second bone-marrow transplant to treat a recurrence of leukemia after 10 years in remission.

He’s a remarkable artist and person; so is she.

Not being a watcher of late-night TV, I hardly knew who he was until I stumbled onto his unrehearsed collaboration with Corinne Bailey Rae:

Not a movie, but a 3 part documentary on Netflix called Get Gotti, on the rise and fall of John Gotti as the mob boss of NY in the 1980’s and early 90’s. Really good, check it out

Barbie. I’d say 7 out of 10. Clever directing and good performances. Not in the league of Oppenheimer or Mission Impossible, but a different type of movie which is good.

The Creator, I gave it a 6 out of 10 on IMDB. Very well done sci-fi movie, all the parts and pieces of the future world were very well thought out. Parts of the story were really rushed which is why I gave it a 6. In contrast watching Rebel Moon the other night, this movie looked like Citizen Kane compared to that garbage.

America Fiction - 4.5 out of 5. Someone we used to listen to regularly would appreciate the references to Stagg R Leigh (Scatter Lee) and Johnny Walker Red, Black, and Blue.

Favorite quote, paraphrased:
You think you're dressed "street"?
I am.
Yeah, Sesame Street.

The Greatest Night in Pop - Documentary on the making of We are the World. Really good. Amazing talent in that room. You forget how incredible Michael Jackson was before the complete self destruction

The Marvels - 6 out of 10. Nothing terrible, but nothing special either. Brie Larson is good with the character, just too bad there isn’t much story here
