I have been watching David Letterman full time since 1990. I was only a kid, maybe about 11 or 12. I've seen first run, and I've seen reruns. I've hardly missed an episode since 1993 and the move to CBS. One thing, though, remains constant throughout the entire time I've viewed Dave: Viewer Mail. Dave's been doing Viewer Mail since the beginning. For all this time, I've wanted to get a letter in the mailbag. With the advent of e-mail, I've been able to send in many submissions to Viewer Mail (Now the CBS Mailbag). On September 24th, 1999, 2 days before my 21st birthday, I finally got one.

But first, let's bring you up to speed before Episode #1292 of the show.

September 23rd, 1999: It was a day like any other day. I was 3 days away from my 21st birthday. I was relaxing comfortably in Dayton. Earlier in the day, I played a softball game (we won 12-11). I wasn't expecting anything to happen today, until Mike's Letter.

Mike McIntee, writer of the highly praised Wahoo Gazette sent me an e-mail. He told me that I got letter #4 in the mailbag at the Friday taping. Needless to say, I was really excited about the event. I could hardly sleep. But it finally happened, and it's all recorded here. One of the best things about my letter being on the program was that my 21st birthday was 2 days away (September 26th). This was indirectly a great birthday gift! Thanks to the show and Dave for answering my letter so close to my birthday!
